The Entertainer

Linder Sterling has been commissioned by Storey Gallery to develop her research on the heyday of Morecambe and Heysham, both popular English seaside resorts in the early and mid 20th Century. The beautiful and unique Morecambe hosted the Miss Great Britain contest from 1956 until 1989 and acted as the backdrop to the film, The Entertainer, starring Laurence Olivier.

The artist has a particular interest in the area, and has gathered an impressive archive of memorabilia, postcards, news clippings and images. These objects informed the book 'I know where I'm going: a guide to Morecambe and Heysham' written by Linder and her partner Michael Bracewell. Linder is genuinely fascinated by Morecambe, and it’s a little infectious. She has the ability to re-kindle the glamour and excitement of the area, which is seeing something of a revival following the recent refurbishment of the Art Deco gem, the Midland Hotel.
