Volcanology

Storey Gallery commissioned the artist Ilana Halperin to undertake a research commission which takes as its focus some aspect of Lancaster and its surrounding area.

This focus is not prescriptive but aims only to be a starting point for the artist's project. Ilana's work is often related to Geology and after discussions into previous projects such as her Alchemy fellowship at Manchester Museum, Storey Gallery set up a meeting between the artist and staff at Lancaster University's department of Volcanology. Conversations with Professor Harry Pinkerton, his colleagues and his students are forming the basis of Ilana's research.
