Fly Art

After the success of 'This is not applicable' Storey Gallery was keen to continue its work with young people. This time round we invited Art Gene in Barrow-in-Furness and Castlefield Gallery in Manchester to join us in creating a consortium of organisations, enabling us to reach students across the North West. Funding from Enquire - a national project which links schools and galleries, allowed us to work with many more schools across the region until March 2009.

The three organisations are working with 10 schools and 600 students delivering a series of cross curricular INSET training days for teachers, and workshops for students.

Students from high schools in Lancaster are working with sound artist Tim Lambert to create a new sound commission which will become part of The Audible Picture Show in April. Below is a short film made by the students as they created the a pig toy/recording device. You can also hear the resulting sound pieces on the project blog flyartproject.wordpress.com

The enquire programme is funded jointly by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Children, Schools and Families as part of the Strategic Commissioning Programme for Museum and Gallery Education. The enquire programme is managed by engage and has been developed in association with Arts Council England.
